Centre of Practical Skills (CoPS) Mid-term Assessment update!
Welcome to our Centre of Practical Skills (CoPS) Mid-term Assessment update! In February 2023, we conducted our Mid-term Assessment for our Plumbing, Masonry, and Electrical Installation programs. We are pleased to report that our students have shown excellent progress and achievement in their respective trades.
Our Plumbing students have demonstrated proficiency in installing and repairing various plumbing systems, including water supply, fire protection, irrigation, swimming pools, drainage, and gas piping. They have also shown knowledge of plumbing codes, safety regulations, and customer communication. During the Mid-term Assessment, they were tested on their ability to read technical drawings, calculate measurements, and use plumbing tools and equipment. They also had to demonstrate their skills in soldering, welding, and threading pipes. Overall, our Plumbing students have shown great potential to become skilled plumbers in the future.
Our Masonry students have learned the art of building structures using bricks, concrete, and other materials, and learnt about safety, building physics and insulation, estimation for material and labour and how to prepare a project schedule and reinforcement placement. During the Mid-term Assessment, they were tasked with constructing a brick wall and a concrete block wall. They had to demonstrate their ability to measure, cut, and lay the materials accurately and safely. They also had to show their knowledge of building codes, mortar types, and structural integrity. Our Masonry students have shown excellent attention to detail, craftsmanship, and teamwork, which are essential traits for a successful masonry foreman.
Our Electrical Installation students have learned to install, maintain, and repair various electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, and control circuits. During the Mid-term Assessment, they had to demonstrate their ability to read electrical schematics, and wire connections, and use electrical tools and equipment. They also had to show their knowledge of electrical codes, safety practices, and energy efficiency. Our Electrical Installation students have shown great aptitude for problem-solving, attention to detail, and critical thinking, which are essential skills for a successful electrician.
We are proud of our student’s achievements and want to congratulate them on their hard work and dedication. We also want to thank our instructors, mentors, and industry partners for their support and guidance.
At CoPS, we believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and we are committed to providing our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their careers. We look forward to seeing them continue to grow and excel in the second half of their training programs.
