PLUMBING

The department of the plumbing of Center of Practical Skills has 21 prospective plumbers in their training lists. The target of the department is to have modern plumbers with industrial-oriented standards which meet up with the global norms and codes of practices required of a modern plumber. The training method is based on industry-oriented requirements. The training programme is divided into two semesters for the certificate courses. The practical aspect of the work takes place in the workshop and the overall classwork activities have 30% per semester while the workshop and site practices are 70%. The training course is tailored to suit individual needs and is in compliance with international industry-accepted standards. We have seven certificate courses in each of the semesters.

COURSE COMPETENCIES:

  • Maintain work safety
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, plans and specification
  • Understand each plumbing theory and adequate applications
  • Understand the health aspect of plumbing
  • Understand the State Plumbing Code of Practice
  • Take cautions on environmental health implications of the plumbing system
  • Perform laying and trenching
  • Join pipes and fittings
  • Install water and gas
  • Install sewer fittings
  • Install fire protection, irrigation and swimming pools
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Perform quality checks
  • Maintain documentations

THE GOAL

The is to have plumbers who can do the following at the end of their training:

  • To design, install and maintain drinking water supply.
  • To design, install and maintain a waste removal system.
  • Observe and adhere to all safety concerns during pipework, layout, digging of trenches and installation.
  • Understand building specifications, plans and blueprint readings.
  • Determine Fixture Unit Loads in both supply and wastewater piping.
